FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GALLUP, NM (March 23, 2020) – On Monday, March 23, 2020, the Governor’s Office of the State of New Mexico released an updated Public Health Order. The State of New Mexico’s legal authority allows them to restrict business operations for public safety, and New Mexicans are instructed to remain in their homes or places of residence except for outings absolutely necessary for health, safety, and welfare. Non‐essential retail is no longer allowed in the State of New Mexico while we combat COVID‐19. All non‐essential businesses must close effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020. In addition, gatherings are limited to five (5) people. Non‐essential businesses are outlined in the attached press release from the New Mexico Department of Health. This is the State of New Mexico Health Department’s non‐health related hotline. The State has ramped up surveillance of business to ensure compliance.
