School Resource Officers
School Resource Officers
The School Resource Officer program has been in existence since 1990. It is a program of combined resources from the Gallup Police Department, the City of Gallup, and the Gallup-McKinley County School District. The School Resource Officer program currently has two certified School Resource Officers who are assigned to the Gallup Jr. High School and the Gallup High School.

School Resource Officers are assigned to their specific school to provide a safe learning and working environment for both students and staff. The full-time placement of a School Resource Officer also assists in building a positive rapport between the Officer, the student and the school staff. Duties of School Resource Officer may include investigating and processing all crimes that occur on school property, assist with peer mediation and conflict resolution and instructing the D.A.R.E. course. They may also go into the classroom and instruct students in law enforcement related educational topics including: drug awareness and prevention, personal consequences, the dangers of impaired driving, crimes involving personal safety, gun safety and ways to avoid being a victim of crime.

For more information, please contact Sergeant Billy Padavich or Patrolman First Class Kelvin Akeson at the Gallup Police Department (505) 863-9365.
